Outbound Queue Management

Hey All,

Long time lurker first time poster(it's mandatory to say that right?). I'm wondering if you're able to prioritize traffic out bound to the internet. for Example:

Name: HTTP-GOLD
URLS: www.Google.com, lynda.com
PRIORITY: TOP

NAME: HTTP-SILVER
URLS: www.reddit.com, www.astaro.com

NAME: HTTP-BRONZE
URLS: All Other HTTP
PRIORITY: BOTTOM

Any advice would be awesome!

    Hi, Benny, and welcome to the User BB!

    I'm not sure you've asked the question you meant to ask.  The amount of outbound traffic to the Internet is normally quite small when surfing, so none of those accesses should cause a logjam for the others.

    On the other hand, people often want to prioritize some downloads over others.  The problem with that is that you can't tell the webserver or your ISP to only send x bits per second unless you limit the traffic (Download Throttling).

    To do that, you could limit GOLD to a gigabit (no limit), silver to 40% of your bandwidth and bronze to 20%.  The rule for GOLD must be first.

    Thanks for the information, for the traffic selectors for the download throttling can you have your own custom URLS?

    Benny, read up on Quality of Service in the Interfaces & Routing section.  You can't have complete URLs, but you can, for example, use a DNS Group for Google and a DNS Host for Lynda.com.

    Thanks for that. I've been looking at this wrong. I've been looking at services when Services should have been "HTTP" with the Destination being the DNS. You're a champion. Thanks Mate!
