IPS reduces internet speed by half

So I called to complain to Comcast that I wasn't getting the "doubled" speeds that I was supposed to be getting.  After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered that the IPS setting being enables was reducing my bandwidth to half.  When IPS is on, I was getting 55 MBps.  When IPS was off, I was getting 122 MBps.  Clearly there are some issues with that module.  I am running a decent computer with 4GIG of ram.  The CPU is hardly being taxed so I know it is not a resource issue.

    Can you post CPU and system specs. A decent modern CPU should do better then 55Mbps w/ IPS running.  

    Low CPU in the summary isn't always a good thing. With modern CPU's you want some loading so the core speed maxes out. Subsystems like IPS need faster core speeds so power saving measures in the CPU which reduce core speed will hamper IPS.

    For home use (typically 1-2 users, sometimes as many as 3-4 simultaneously), the recommendation is to go with a dual core Intel i3/i5 since the smaller core count makes the system think there's more overall load (compared to a quad-core or an i7) as each core is running at a higher load percentage. This trigger's the power saving mechanisms to ramp up the core speed, improving IPS.
