Understanding QOS?

Hi,

I am trying to setup QOS, but i'm still unsure what interface i should be setting Bandwidth pools & download throttling to?

Am I right in thinking that I should just use the External interface and use Bandwidth pools for upload traffic and Download Throttling for Download traffic?

    Basically the office only has ADSL 8meg down and 1.5meg up, so I want to use QOS to distribute the bandwidth so if someone wants to browse the web they can without and holdups while a VPN user is transferring files offsite.  Also i will need to make sure that SMTP traffic flows to our Exchange server without holdups.  In the near future there will be an offsite Exchange DAG server with site to site VPN so that will need guaranteed bandwidth.

    Is this doable with QOS?  Unfortunately the office is in middle of nowhere so fibre isn't an option.

    Still unsure about the interfaces, when do i know what interface to use?  i.e. if a user browses the web on the LAN would I have to set bandwidth pool on the external interface up or the internal interface up?  Same with throttling would i set it on Extenal int or Internal Int?  Then what about VPN users Externally, would i set bandwidth pool on External int or Internal Int?  I understand how each works just confused about having to assign to an interface?  Seeing that any traffic crosses both interfaces when do you know in which situation you would assign to a particular interface?  Is there a simple way of looking at it that may help me understand?
