Schedule Bandwidth Throttling?

Hello!  I am running the Sophos UTM firmware version 9.209-8 on an old DELL Optiplex workstation.  Seems to be working great.  I have an internal server that I have configured "upload" throttling for to save my upload bandwidth during the waking hours.  However, at night the same server needs to run an offsite backup job and it would be nice if this Throttling rule could be automatically disabled or scheduled.  Or perhaps there could be an exception.  Right now the rule says something like:

From "MyInternalServer" to "IPv4 Internet"

This seems to allow the same server to have full LAN throughput to local hosts, but also has the desired affect of uploading data to internet based hosts without hammering my upload speed.

I've attached some pictures related to my speed/QoS settings.

    Adam, there's a better approach that lets you have your cake and eat it, too. [;)]

    Set your Internal interface to its full speed.  Delete your download throttling rule.  Assuming that your OWNCLOUD traffic isn't going through Web Filtering, put two Bandwidth pools on the WAN interface, in order:
    [LIST=1]'L-H-TYLER-OWNCLOUD -> Any -> Internet' : guarantee 10kbps
    • 'Any -> Any -> Internet' : guarantee 20000kbps
    [/LIST]
    I might even be tempted to guarantee more with the second rule.  The net of this is that your OWNCLOUD traffic will be able to have access to bandwidth not being used by others.

    Bob,  thanks for the reply.  Cool suggestion, but what's to prevent the server from consuming all the upload capacity of the circuit if you don't limit it?  I see that there is a certain amount of throughput allocated, but not limited?

    Adam, the technique I suggest DOES limit the bandwidth use by the server, but only when something else wants to use the bandwidth.

    Ok,  I will have to give this a try..  Does this feature have anything to do with the "Automatic QoS" settings "Download Equalizer" and "Upload Optimizer"?  If not, how do these differ?  At face value it appears like this "automatic" behavior might be something Sophos tried to build in with a check box rather than a bandwidth pool?  Or do these have to be selected as a pre-requisite to use pools?

    Or...  do we need a swim suite first?  [:)]

    Tyler, I think most people don't know how to use the automatic settings today (me neither!). Leave them off until there're explicit instructions in the Sophos web site.
