Cannot access the internet

Hi all,

Like expected, I'm back for another noob question [:(]

I have read through almost all threads but am still baffled why I cannot access the internet.

This is my setup so far:

Modem (DHCP) --> connected to Eth0 
LAN switch --> connected to Eth1

- The IP to access Webadmin is 192.168.1.110 (accessible from LAN network)
- Eth0 interface ticked as default gateway
- Added masquerade rule like suggested in all threads
- Added Firewall rule "for ANY service" Internal network -> External
- All other protection turned off
- ISP DNS forward enabled (correct IP's were received)

I have manually configured a test PC (connected to the LAN switch) to:

IP: 192.168.1.163
MASK: 255.255.255.0
DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.1.110
1st DNS: 192.168.1.110

With this I'm not able to access the internet [:S] I'm at my last legs currently...

It must be something I have overlook but I cannot find what... any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Since this is a new issue, unrelated to your first one, it should indeed be in a separate thread.  I put it here since your description is of settings in Network Protection.  This may be a routing problem though.

    What, specifically, do you mean by "I cannot access the internet" - what do you try and what do you experience?  If there is a line in the Firewall log showing a blocked access, please post it here.  Is the modem in bridge mode so that you have a public IP on eth0?

    Hi,

    Thank you for moving my question to an appropriate thread.

    - The modem is a pure modem, no settings (from user side)
    - The external IP is received correct on eth0
    - The WebAdmin works fine on 192.168.1.110:4444
    - All firewall, MASQ, DNS settings are according to the textbook

    One of my problem is I don't know what to input (for testing I manually configure a the IP4 settings on the LAN PC NIC)

    Question:

    1. What IP should be used as default gateway? The same IP as the WebAdmin? or the Vethernet created by Hyper-V (which is 192.168.1.2) I tried both no luck...

    2. When I tracert 8.8.8.8 it stops at 192.168.1.110 [:(]

    I simply don't get it... from my LAN I cannot seem to access the external network (internet)

    Is there something I'm missing?

    I took the last log line of the firewall:

    Hmhm there seems to be some dropping [:O]

    PS: 195.130.130.131 is the DNS of my ISP

    Hi,

    Okay, weird... an internet connection was finally possible when setting the "only" firewall rule to "Internal Network --> ANY --> ANY or IP4 Internet", when I change the destination to "External WAN" the access cuts off [:S]

    Any thoughts? Thanks [:$]

    Wan network is the subnet of your external interface so isn't the same as any or internet

    Again thank you for your great insight in the matter. Slowly learning critical stuff here, nice [:D]

    Well, since all is running now (again: only 1 firewall rule) I noticed to my horror that my download speed is now less than 1/10 of what it was without UTM [:O]

    Down: 85.63 Mbps --> With UTM: 7.62 Mpbs
    Up: 9.23 Mbps --> With UTM: 3.34 Mpbs

    I expected some loss but this is beyond my believe.

    I do see in Hyper-V for the NIC status degraded... but since it is running it cannot possible be the cause for this kind of decrease in speed? Can it? I have the integrated HP Microserver Broadcom NIC's (Gigabit) in use...

    As for the VM, it's is using less than 1% CPU could it be the memory? I dedicated 700MB or RAM but dynamic. Its the max. I can assign... the virtual machine would not start when assigned more ( I have 4Gb in total)

    I'm currently the only user and surfing seems to be okay, no name resolving issues.

    I guess I'm in for more than I bargained for [:(]

    Please, can someone help me? Or am I working on the edge of my wee server?

    Fixed [:D]

    Updating the Broadcom drivers on the host to the latest:

    Ethernet NIC NetXtreme Server Driver Downloads | Broadcom

    boosted the speeds back to normal, actually a bit better so it seems... Yeah [H]
