Hi and thank you for this great forum,
it seems to be the place for finding all the answers that we were looking for and have been struggling with?
Here information about myself and my struggles:
I am on a private yacht and our internet connection is VSAT.
Our CIR = 256/128 and our MIR = 1536/256
We have 5 VLAN's, 18 Crew and 10 Guest.
And believe it or not, it works surprisingly well with the internet, but only if there is no guests on.
It is just that the crew is chewing up all the bandwith. And no matter what we do or how much we ask them to be considerate, they don't get it.
The guest are frustrated, we are running arround like crazy and are trying to find a solution and the crew just doesn't give a ***.
They are facebooking and youtubeing like it was a 100mbit/s residential connection.
But fact is that we somehow have to get by with MIR 1536/256.
How can we prioritize the traffic in our firewall?
1st VIOP
2nd Owner
3rd Guest
4th my personal IP [:)]
5th LAN
6th Kaleidescape
7th Crew
I have set up in Interfaces & Routing > Traffic Selectros > New Traffic Selector, there I set one up for each individual VLAN.
i.e Source: Crew, Service: Any, Destination: Internet IPv4
The same for Guest and the others.
Then I went to Bandwith Pool and created new Pools.
Bound to interface VSAT.
One for Guest, one for LAN, ...
Guest is Position 1, LAN 2, ...
For Guest Bandwidth (kbit/s): is 1280, Traffic selector is only selected for Guest.
Am I on the right way, do you have any other suggestions on how to set up a traffic priorisation?
