automatic IPS/IDS patterns update causes outage of several minutes

Hello,
Is it possible, that a automatic IPS rules update causes a complete outage for up to five minutes, with HDD going up to 120% load/queue and both CPU cores running at 90-100% on a UTM 220?
During that time the UTM was not responding to ping, not forwarding any request, dropping packets and Webadmin has not been available.

Support tells "this is normal behaviour"...

Best regards,

SA

  • Hi, you could leave an SSH session open with 'top' running, so that you'd be able to see it when it happens.

Also check the RAM/Swap and CPU usage graphs under Reporting.

You could talk to your reseller about a possible trade-in for one of the new models.
