automatic IPS/IDS patterns update causes outage of several minutes

Hello,
Is it possible, that a automatic IPS rules update causes a complete outage for up to five minutes, with HDD going up to 120% load/queue and both CPU cores running at 90-100% on a UTM 220?
During that time the UTM was not responding to ping, not forwarding any request, dropping packets and Webadmin has not been available.

Support tells "this is normal behaviour"...

Best regards,

SA

  • Hello Bob,

I've tried to ssh and start top/atop.
No way. As soon as it happens, the 220 box is overloaded and doesn't answer to the ssh request (even ping doesn't answer sometimes).

But this is definitely not normal behaviour, or has anyone experienced similar cases?

    Regards,

    SA
