All packets dropped

Hi,
I've just installed UTM 9.108. Can't seem to get it to work properly. nslookup seems fine, ip address returned ok.

I'm just using the wizard generated rules at the moment. The internet connection is via a 3G usb. Up2date worked fine and upgraded from 107 to 108 this evening.

Any one help ?

You are correct, all traffic is dropped by default. If you want to let anything through, including the DNS queries in your log, you must create rules to allow it.

It is, by default, a fireWALL - you must knock holes in it to let traffic through.

There are default rules in the fw for DNS and web services generated by the wizard.

Yes, definitely enabled. nslookup works fine.

Solved - It was user error. I set up UTM as a new gateway but forgot to set the public (default) route to point to the UTM, it was still pointing to my old router AP. Also didn't set the WAN interface on the UTM as a gateway in interfaces. Even though I'd set the DG on the laptop NIC to the UTM.

I forgot the basic rules of firewalls: rules, routing and antispoofing.
