How to allow IGMP from WAN

Hi everyone,

I need help with allowing IGMP traffic into my network from TALKTALK. I have taken the new youview service and cannot get it working due to the multicast traffic being blocked on the network.

Has anyone else had success getting youview to work with the Sophos UTM????

    Hi carpet_pants,

    Out of the box, the multicast service doesn't work with most IPTV services as the UTM needs info about the upstream routers of the service which the providers are typically unwilling to disclose. That said, there is a thread in the German forum where several folks have hacked around the multicast proxy to permit IPTV to work.

    Another option, if your service allows multiple devices off your modem, is to use a small consumer router running 3rd party firmware as the IGMP gateway and only hang the IPTV boxes off that. Not the most elegant but it works.

    Thanks for your help. I will look into both of the methods you mentioned, if you have any links for the german forum article that would help. Also like the sound of the IGMP gateway so will hunt around for some old hardware.

    Hope this gets addressed in UTM at some point!

    Don't have the link off the top but it should be easy to find on here. I think the search terms IPTV & IGMP should get you results.

    As for the IGMP gateway, the hardware you need is a $50 consumer grade router. Look at the hardware compatibility lists on the DD-WRT and OpenWRT sites for more details. I've used DD-WRT before on routers but some models of router you have to pay for access to the custom firmware. OTOH, OpenWRT does not charge for any of their supported hardware
