GeoIP blocking problems understanding

When when I enable GeoIP blocking, if I understand correct if I set "from" on a geographical location I block all traffic initiated from that region. In other words if I set "from" on United Stated I essentially block all traffic from USA, but if I browse the net from my internal LAN (behind my Sophos UTM) the traffic is allowd since the traffic is initiated from the inside TO usa, and not FROM usa. Is my assumption here correct?

    You are correct, I do make the assumption that I know where the home for malicious software is. The assumption is often based on the traffic I see on the firewall. If I see traffic going to regions that we normally don't browse to or exchange data we make the assumption that this is traffic that is not legitimate and as a result we block traffic to that region.
