Google search results blocks

We have a user who we've been asked to grant firewall exceptions to for a few sites. The user has a Web Filtering exception with the specific URLs listed in the following format:

^https?://[A-Za-z0-9.]*example.com

We've been using this format for a while now just to make sure that we don't miss any subdomains or subsites associated with the domain. However, something that I noticed recently is that when the user copies and pastes the URLs for these exceptions into a browser address bar, she can get to the sites, but if she clicks on the URLs directly from a Google search, she's blocked due to the site belonging to a blocked category (which she also has an exception for that doesn't seem to function for some reason). Here's what she gets when clicking directly from a Google search results page:

Any idea what could cause this?

Paul, try adding a "/" to the list in the brackets.

Any luck with that?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try and see how it goes. I'm going to set it up as follows:

^https?://[A-Za-z0-9./]*example.com

Does the slash mark have something to do with redirects?

The slash means that the Google URL is included - note the "/" after google.com in the link.
