Question: Firewall Rules

Hi,

1 question. Kinda stupid, but just to double confirm.

I notice the UTM blocks all outgoing traffic untill a firewall rule is placed in to allow outgoing traffic to Internet.

Is this the same for incoming traffic?
Is there a need to place in a rule that is ANY ==> Any ==> ANY ==> Deny?

  • Hi,

By default ALL incoming *and* outgoing traffic is banned. The firewall is also stateful so when you allow outgoing traffic, the firewall will permit return traffic back to the client that started the connection.

Normally you only need to creating incoming rules *if* you have servers behind the firewall that you want to permit access to.
