IPS Ram Usage

All-

I am running UTM 9.003-15 currently with 2 instances of IPS. The PC is a core 2 duo with 8gb of ram. I notice that after 3 to 5 days I have to restart the IPS. The percentage of ram usage along with CPU begin to increase absent of an apparent reason. This has been going on since the 9.002 patch. I remain hopeful someone can provide guidence on what the root cause may be. Left unchecked resources will be consumed to the point the ASG does not function correctly.

    how much ram is being used?  fire up top when you are having problems and post a screenie here.

    Normally ram runs 8 or 9 %, with CPU very low 1 or 2%. When I restarted the ISP yesterday ram was running at 15% and CPU at 11%. At the time no other internet/network services were in use. I have been experiencing the gradual increase over time of IPS resource consumption. The offending resource was the first instance of snort. The second instance was very low. So as the first instance of snort resource consumption increases so does CPU utilization.(understandably). While I don't have exact numbers in hand this should get us started.

    instead of restarting the ips let it go and let's see what happens..[:)]

    That is how Iearned of the issue to begin with. The IPS stops working all together. CPU usage becomes high, general web surfing becomes slow. I average 83 mb down normaly. Page loading and downloads are noticeably slow.  Thanks, Jim

    hrmm okies.  So you are having issues when leaving ips on.  How many users?  which nics?  Also what motherbaord?

    My ASG is for home use and has 12 devices connected. ASG runs on a Lenovo 8910 AMU core 2 duo with 8 gb of ram. The PC is about 2 years old. The hard disk is an mtron SSD (SLC ) 60 gb drive. The NICs are intel 82567LM-3 (eth 0) and 82574L (eth 1). Both are gigbit NIC's. My provider is verizon fios I am on a 75/35 plan. Ethernet is run from the ONT to the computer room with the ASG as the only device connected to the ONT on the WAN(ethernet). The PC I am using is certainly over kill. However it does the job and makes very little if any noise. Personally I believe this is a software issue, possibly reloading might be the best choice.

    your issue is unusual although with how much ram you have installed i'm not to surprised by high usage..the slowdowns however are concerning.  Make a config backup...however if you reload do NOT load it at first.  manually rebuild your config and see what happens.

    Hi, can you check the IPS logs at the point where the IPS stops working?

    Hi Barry,

    When it got to a stage of not working I think the log was empty. I am going  off of memory.... We are going back a lenght of time on this one. Generally speaking I don't keep logs very long unless there is some outstanding reason.
