Redirect Outbound Internet

Hey all.. Hope this isn't a dumb question or too n00b. [:)]

We have a 220 in our data center and a RED at our office. Currently the RED handles DHCP for us and all remote connectivity back to the data center. Our current connection out to the Internet also routes through datacenter. We are starting to see some latency and would like to route to Internet via local Comcast connection thus bypassing the RED. Would I need to add a new 120 or something similar to achieve this? 

We want to maintain the constant connection back to the datacenter of course. Also, we
will eventually have a private dedicated fiber connection between office and datacenter but that is several months out. But I need to consider that moving forward as well.

    FYI, the IPS will use a LOT of CPU at 200mbps.

    200Mb/sec?  The "problem" is the connection to the Internet at 50Mb/sec when the traffic is routed through the 220?  This just doesn't all add up for me.

    The Internet traffic is not routing through the ASG as we had orginally thought.. but I think I need to replace the RED since our current Comcast connection to the Internet is 50mb and we have a 200mb dedicated line coming soon beween our office and the datacenter.. so the question is do I replace the RED with software version or a 120? Also, if I replace the RED entirely, I would need a site-to-site VPN until the dedicated line is in. So I am thinking just install the either software appliance or 120 and stil run the RED for connectivity to the datacenter until the 200mb line is in.

    Sorry that I was so short yesterday.  Let me express myself more clearly (I hope).

    You said that the problem was Office access to the Internet, and later that the RED is in split mode so that traffic to the Internet doesn't transit the connection to the Data Center.  I don't understand how increasing the speed of the connection to the DC would do anything to resolve the problem you describe.

    Rather than spend money on the 200Mb dedicated connection, I bet you'd be better off with a 120 or a 25-User software version.  Without knowing more about your situation, I'll just guess that the solution will include configuring QoS to guarantee bandwidth to outbound browsing requests.

    What does your reseller say about all this?

    PS My guess is that replacing the RED and using it for something other than the connection to the DC will be the only way to resolve the latency problem.

    The intent of the 200mb connection has nothing to do with relieving Internet latency complaints. The 200mb is a separate intiative to increase speed from the two offices only. [[:)]]

    Regardless... it sounds like the RED is the bottlekneck and needs to go. I am just trying to justify the cost of a 120 over using the free version with one of our existing servers. 

    And I am not sure who our reseller is anymore.. you interested? [[:)]]

    As a business, you would need to pay for a Network Security subscription to facilitate the VPN between the office and the DC.  The subscription-costs for 25-User software subscriptions are the same (mostly) as for the UTM120.  There's not enough info here to tell which would be better for you.  Heck, maybe the best thing would be to put the 220 in the office and move the RED to the connection at the DC!  Email me if you're serious about having us help you.
