UTM 9 + Skype Question

Hello all,

i would like to upgrade to version 9 as there is a lot of great new features ! 

but i would like to know if there is a some new stuff regarding Skype and transparent proxy. 

cause i use skype on ipad, iphone, mac and windows. for windows i used the socks5 proxy but mac version doesn't have this option ... does version 9 give a solution to that ?

    the option to use socks is not an ASG issue.  ASG 9 DOES have a socks proxy though.  If your client doesn't support it then it doesn't matter if the gateway does..[:)]

    Skype works fine with just outbound packetfilter rules and Masquerading, if you don't mind letting some traffic out around the proxy.

    I get much better performance with skype when using socks..and i don't have to worry about "letting any traffic out"...[:)]

    Barry: do you lnow this rules and masquerading ? Cause i will maybe go with that as i just saw this logitech product that will come out soon and for sure this product won't have proxy settings ... And i'm using proxy but i could tirn it off as my asg is only for home use.

    Masquerade your LAN to your WAN/EXT Address.

    PacketFilter:
    Source: LAN
    Dest: Internet
    Service: Any
    Allow

    This would allow all outgoing traffic from your computers. It's up to you whether you are comfortable with that.
    That's how I run my networks at home, but not at work.

    I'm not mnagung like this but i guess it can work if i specify only one ip adress like this. So i think i will stay like this for the moment and i will see if i buy this logitech device and then i will do it only for this device.

    Yes, a packetfilter rule can specify a Host Network Definition, which would only allow the single host/device.
