UTM 9 - Hyper-V - slow Network Speed

Hello,

I am using Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 and have currently some problems with the network speed.

The Setup is:

Internet NIC -> Astaro -> private NIC -> Client

I have currently 7 MB/s with this Setup.

If i change the Setup to:

Internet NIC -> Client 

I have up to 20 MB/s.

I tryed both normal and legacy adapter.

IPS is disabled.

RAM ~60%
CPU 5%
SWAP 0%

Any Tipps ?

    Hi, and welcome to the User BB!

    It is possible that you truly have something configured incorrectly.  It's also possible that the tool you're using to measure speed is giving you a misleading result.  How are you measuring the speed?

    simple wget to /dev/null

    The sophos dasboard display the same interface usage.

    something isn't setup right.  how much cpu do you have dedicated to the vm?

    Hi, reinstall with 2 vcpu so that you get the smp kernel which is faster than the single core kernel.

    I don't know how it is in V9, but in V8 you get the singlecore kernel installed when only using one vcpu wich will end in a big lack of performance.

    Second thing is, that you maybe set wrong QoS settings a get therefore bad performance.

    I'm currently running into the same problem but it is not in a virtual machine. I'm currently running UTM 9 on a computer with the following specs:

    Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz, 12GB DDR3, 2 Gigabit NICs, 40GB SSD(SATA), 1TB (SATA)(Currently Not Used) and NIC Cable CAT6.

    UTM 9 : Download speed 50Mbps, Upload 20Mbps
    Without UTM 9: Download 165Mbps, Upload 69Mbps

    So what am I doing wrong? I currently have the free home version. 
    My problems include the following:

    1. Fix the bandwidth gap - increase the speed of my UTM
    2. All non hhd intensive partitions on my 1TB hard disk. (Like my logs) And leave the hhd intensive partitions on the SSD.

    Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    Since you're not using Hyper-V, this should have been posted as a new thread.

    Anyways, 

    1. Astaro only supports 1 HD (or SSD). You can't use 2 drives.

    2. If you are using the Web Content Filter aka Web Security AKA HTTP proxy, speed tests are unlikely to be accurate.
    I suspect this is your 'problem'.

    3. the IPS and Traffic Classifier can slow down traffic. You should tune the IPS settings as appropriate for your enviroment.
