ASG v9 question

Hello,

I don't know if this the right subforum but I would like to ask a question about Astaro security gateway v8 - home use firewall edition.

In the minimum requirements the software appliance asg v8 says that it needs two NICs. I wanted to know if wireless cards count? 
In specific 1 wifi card associated with an AP (internet) and the other wifi card to provide dhcp and NAT. 

Can this be done with the software appliance of ASG v8 or is it not possible?

    The UTM/ASG does not support Wireless cards or USB-based NICs.  You will need to have at least 2 PCI/PCI Express NICs installed to make proper use of the product.

    Don't anyone think for a second that I'm disagreeing with Bruce!

    I have a new laptop (i7 8GB) with wireless+wired capability where I tried an experiment with VMWare Player and UTM V9.  Without connecting the wired NIC, I was able to supply Web Proxy to other users in the wireless network at home.  I did not atttempt to connect the wired NIC to the cable modem (in other words, only use the wireless router as a wireless LAN switch), but I wonder if that would have worked with setting all default gateways of the other PCs/laptops to the wireless IP.  It seems like that would work since the Astaro software would "see" the wireless NIC as the virtual NIC, but your PC/laptop would need to have at least 2GB of RAM, preferably 4GB.

    What do you think, Bruce?  Would it be worth the time to setup an old XP laptop with 2GB and VMWare Player as a home Astaro?  What about wiping out the XP with ESXi instead?

    PS Welcome to the User BB, latebeat!  The other problem I see with two wireless NICs is that they would need to be in separate networks.  You might be able to bridge them, but that would mean no QoS capability, and maybe some other things that don't come immediately to mind.

    I would be interested to know the answer to that question too. What you described is what I'm doing with a linux box at the moment and that's why I asked if I could do the same thing with ASG instead
