RDP issues

Hi

I have found an issue with routing rdp trafic from one zone to another.

I have reproduced the case at 2 different places. In both cases it involved esxi5, and vlans.

the esxi is setup with vlan tagged trafic. there are port groups for each vlan and the astaro has a virtual netcard in each port group. 

Zones are created in astaro for each net card, lan, vlan5dmz etc.

The problem is that it is nearly impossible to use rdp from one zone to another, e.g. a virtual machine in the vlan5zone.

windows versions affected is windows 7, don't know about other version. 

I have seen this both at work when evaluating astaro, and now at home.

At work we also saw slow filetransfer performance. We also tested untangle, and it had no problem routing the traffic. really weird.

At work we had no firewall rules, since it was only a matter of routing between lan and a test vlan.  

So, is this a combination of windows rdp and astaro tcp handling ? or where should i look ?

    I've seen problems reported here with the Flexible NICs also.  Have you tried changing to E1000 NICs?

    But for my company where we deploy several vm's a day, this isn't a option.

    I think that suggestion was related to clients running Windows7.

    Ok, nice to know. The flexible Nic's came from the template, from astaro. I will try to change them.

    Hi,

    I termporary solve my problem by disabling the TSO on the virtual network card configurazion of the windows virtual machine.
    The problem seems to be the nexus 1000v...we'll try to update to the last version and then enable again the TSO....I let you know....

    I made a clean installation with e1000 nics from latest iso. That solved the problem. Astaro should change the template.

    Hi all,

    confirmed, DON'T USE the virtual appliance provided by Astaro if you have a vSphere Enterprise Plus (with distributed virtual switch 1000v) environment because the flexible adapters have problems with forwarding traffic.

    Instead use the normal iso for the software appliance and during the configuration of virtual machine use E1000 adapter.

    I hope this will be userful.

    That's what I recommend since long time. Since ESXi5 and UTM9 from my view the VMXNET3 driver is even better than the e1000. But e1000 is usually a good choice for any linux based system.
