Wireless speed

So my wife pointed out to me that the download speeds on her laptop were not doing so great and I decided to look into it myself. When I ran a speedtest I came up with 3Mbps on her laptop which is way off. I have Comcast Cable and am paying for the 20Mbps service. My desktop is getting the 20Mbps but the laptop is not. What could be wrong in my configuration?

Cable Modem > Astaro > Linksys E1000 (being used as an access point) > PS3, Laptops and cell phones connected to the router.

I tried looking through the logs but nothing is standing out. Where should I be looking

    As I don't want to make an assumption, the laptop is using wireless and not wired, correct?  What about your desktop?

    If wireless, what standard are you connecting with (must be supported by both the laptop and the access point), A, B, G, or N.

    If wired, check the speed and duplex on the Laptop NIC.

    If your wire speed is fine I'd start by looking at the WiFi access point.

    What other devices are connected to the WiFi when she noticed it? The E1000 is a b/g/n router so if a 802.11b/g devices connects the router's bandwidth pool will drop from 150/300 down to 12/54.

    Yes the laptop is connected wireless. The only devices connected to the WiFi are her laptop, my google chrome cr-48, blackberry 9800, and moto atrix.

    What standard is she connecting with?  If it's B, then the speeds are going to be significantly lower.

    Unless you've been configuring QoS on the Astaro, then the problem is going to be somewhere within the LAN.  Most likely between the AP and the Laptop.

    The adapter on both the wireless router and the laptop are N

    I am going to have to test this tomorrow a little bit further but I think I may have found the issue. When my desktop and laptop were online together at the same time my desktop was getting 19 Mbps and the laptop was getting 3 Mbps or as little as 0.51 Mbps. I tured off my desktop and ran speed test again on the laptop (about 3 times) and the speed was 14 Mbps. Is it possible that all my bandwidth is throttled to my desk?

    But, is she connecting using N?  Every N AP that I know of also supports B and G and if there is a problem with a connection, it will fall back to a lower speed standard.

    We need to rule out the likeliest possibilities and then see what's left.

    Another thing that I would try to rule out are the speed and duplex settings for the wired connection between the E1000 and Astaro.  If the google chrome cr-48, blackberry 9800, or moto atrix can get full speed, then this won't be the problem.  The E1000, may also have diagnostic information about the connection between it and the laptop.

    what version are you running?  Did you recently upgrade to 8.201?  I ran into similar issue when 8.200 was in beta. All my desktop working OK except my laptop speed either dropping or can't connect to my WAP.  Revert back to 8.103 and everything is fine.

    Yes she is connecting with N. I have set the AP to only broadcast on N. I did not test the rest of the devices speed settings, I probably should have done that. How would I check the settings for the wired connection between E1000 and Astaro.

    I did not recently upgrade to .201, it is the first version I downloaded and installed.
