Non-Astaro Wireless Access Point

I have put a wireless modem/router onto the LAN (only using the LAN interface) and configured it as an access point. Firewall, ACLs, IPS are all turned off. I can connect wirelessly and get on the internet for about 10 minutes before the internet connection times out. I see on the astaro dashboard that the internet facing interface traffic increases when this occurs. I have tried disabling the astaro IPS, port scanning and rebooting the WAP as well as the astaro box to no avail. I have turned off the wireless card and rejoined the SSID, tried plugging into the wired LAN with the same result. The only thing that restores normlity is to unplug the LAN port of the WAP, then I can get onto the internet again. The astaro internet interface traffic reduces (corresponding with the LEDs on the actual internet modem).

My question is: although this is not an astaro WAP, has anyone seen this behavious before? I can get about 10 minutes whith the WAP connected and then internet activity is cut off (even pinging from the webmin console fails). Any pointers and troubleshooting steps would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm using the Astaro virtual appliance v7 running on vmware esxi

    Thanks for the pointers. To answer your questions:
    I haven't used the Astaro wireless Access point module as I hear this is only for Astaro WAPs.
    When I lose connectivity to the internet my CPU is only at 7% and memory is a constant 74% which is the same before and after...
    DHCP is disabled on the WAP (it's relaying requests to an SBS server)
    The mgt interface of the WAP is a different (and unique) IP to the astaro gateway.
    Inbound and outbound traffic is currently (another test in progress tonight) at 3-8Kbps in and 3Kbps out on the WAN interface. I plugged the WAP in 3 minutes ago.
    I have a continuous ping to a DNS server on the internet 4.2.2.2 and my latency is between 280 and 295ms continuously. 
    I have tried this out five times on three different nights with the same result (failing after about 10 minutes). Tonight it's still up after an hour and I've just unplugged my wired connection and plugged in a network printer (different unique IP). So I'll see what the result is. Crossed fingers.... not sure where the bug is just yet but I really appreciate the advice and help, thanks a lot guys. Will let you know if it goes pear shaped ;-)
