[8.201] ping/tracert not possible from internal to outside

Hi,

with 8.200 and 8.201 installed I cannot ping the outside world anymore.
In Network Security/Firewall/ICMP all checkboxes are enabled.
Web Security/Application Control is completely disabled and all QoS settings and rules are also completely disabled.

What can I do to check why pinging or tracerouting the outside world does not work?
In firewall log I cannot see anything regarding ICMP.
Pinging and tracerouting from the outside the dmz servers does work quite well.

Any ideas?

    The only possible thing that I can think of is to toggle the ICMP/ping settings.  Turn them off and apply, then turn them back on and apply.  This will delete, then recreate the hidden rules for these items, just in case they are currently corrupted in some way.  You can also always try a quick reboot of the Astaro...couldn't hurt.

    If that doesn't work, I would tag it to be another one of the issues with 8.200 and 8.201 soft-release, which are not final GA code.  If it were me experiencing this issue, I'd drop back to 8.103 and wait for 8.200 GA, which is expected to be released late this week.

    To quote AngeloC from the 8.201 soft-release thread:

    We release the soft-release only to the ftp and then only make a post here for a reason; we want only a few extra early-adopters, which in addition to our own staff and friends, install our final code a few days earlier than all our installations get via Up2Date push.

    If you want only the best and most stable things from us, don't install a soft-release!


    Sorry that I can't go down the troubleshooting path with you, but chances are that it is a code bug.  If that's the case, then we won't be able to find a granular fix.

    Before posting here I tried of course to turn all ICMP settings off, waited nearly 30 seconds for each block that the hidden rules gets removed.
    After a system restart I enabled slowly all settings block by block again but same situation again.

    So as this was working in 8.1xx versions before I also think of a bug maybe?
    Should this be filed by someone? Or is this to uninteresting?
    As this is my personal system it's not that interesting to me.
    But besides my personal needs there will come a point where our customers will see a publicly released u2d package which could be 8.202 and will tell us to install it on their machines.
    What can we tell our customers? Astaro broke the ICMP stuff and it just doesn't work anymore? Hmmm... I don't think our customers will like that...

    Dropping back to 8.1xx to me seems not to be the right solution. Closing the eyes just to not see this problem anymore doesn't make it go away.
    Let us see what Astaro will give us in GA. Hopefully without a broken ICMP system.
    Noone there who tested this in beta? I'm very impressed.

    The reason why I said to drop back to 8.103 is that 8.200 GA will have more fixes for issues that currently exist in the 8.200 and 8.201 soft-releases.  If you'll notice in my signature, I'm running a system on 8.201 and am not experiencing this issue.  Neither are any of the other testers.  The potential reason why is because we all upgraded from beta builds.  Like many of the current issues in the 8.20X soft-releases, your problem could be one of those that were introduced in the upgrade scripts from 8.103-->8.200.  Astaro has fully reviewed these scripts since the soft-release, and fixed the issues for the final GA version, due late this week.  Then again, it could just be some random weird corruption problem, unrelated to 8.20x.  There's dozens of people who visit the forums that have installed the 8.200 soft-release from 8.103 and haven't seen this particular issue.

    Sounds like you're a reseller (partner).  If this is the case, then you can open up a support case with Astaro Support to get clarification about whether or not this is a known issue that has been fixed for GA or if it is something else.  They may also have a granular fix which can be applied now.  If you open up a case, please post back with the results, as it may help someone else in future.

    Hi Scott,

    that sounds quite coherent.
    So if you have boxes out there with a functional ICMP system on 8.201 this must be a particular case just for me.

    I will post an update here if I get more info on this.
