Can't seem to let port 119 pass

Hello all,

First time on the forum, and I've began testing with asg only a week or 2 back.
I've got some difficulties letting port 119 pass through the firewall.
I'm not so into this OS yet (it is running on a dedicated server), but I've tried several things now.

As I really couldn't get it to work I decided to test it in a different way.
I've set up an SSL VPN, through which I tried to acces the binary usenet servers, and that worked, without a hassle.

All I did is check the box 'Automatic packet filter rules' , well it was default so I just left it on.

And it just worked there, no further configuration needed..
The only thing that the VPN didn't have at the time was the HTTP proxy, which IS active on the other interfaces.

Can someone provide me with some guidelines or indications what could be the cause of this, and what should be and what shouldn't be done ?

    If you have created:
    a) A Packetfilter rule from internal Networks with port 119 (NNTP) to ANY or to INTERNET
    b) You have a active Masquerading rule from your internal Networks via WAN Interface (Address)

    This should work.

    I expect a missing or wrong Masquerading rule or wrong packetfilter rule in your case [;)]

    Hey Sascha_Paris,

    Thank you for taking the time to look into my issue :-)

    At the masquerading rules I have 2 rules pointing my VPN as well as the Internal Network towards the External WAN Interface.

    And thanks for pointing me towards the packet rule  NNTP, I tried to create my own, didn't expect it to be defined already :-)

    It is working now, thanks a lot!
