Snort continuous reboot for the last 35 minutes

Nothing of the sort here Bob.  I took a quick look through my log and didn't see any new ips pattern update.

Does the same thing happen if you re-enable IPS?  Does a reboot of the Astaro settle things down?

Anyone else seeing this?

I've had to disable Intrusion Prevention on our Astaro in order to keep the CPU from pegging 100%.  It's normally under 10%.

I've only seen it if the ips is setup wrong or miswired or a bad nic or a software nic going nutso.

This began at 17:35 my time.  I had rebooted 4h40 earlier at 12:55.  I have not rebooted since before the problem began.  I enabled IPS this morning, and things are back to normal.

When I was having the issue, I had pattern 20600; I now have 20601.  There was no pattern update at the time the problem occurred; only an avira package installed 3 hours earlier.  This morning, there was a clam package installed.  Interestingly though, it appears from these pictures that the underlying issue disappeared at midnight:

Could have been a hung process that would have been cleared by the "housekeeping" tasks that begin running at midnight local.

I've submitted a trouble ticket.

Probably a bad pattern, it's happened before.
