Bandwidth Throttling an Interface

I'm running 8.103. I want to throttle bandwidth on an interface. So far I have tried setting the limit in the Interface menu with no success. Since then I have tried limiting via QoS with no success either. Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

    Hi, Dan, and welcome to the User BB!

    There is no limit-setting on the 'Interfaces' tab - those settings only affect the appearance of the bandwidth display on the Dashboard.

    QoS is the right place to do what you want, but you must have a correct traffic selector, and you only can limit traffic leaving an interface.  If you can be specific about what you're trying to accomplish, we might be able to point you in the right direction.

    Thanks for the info Bob.
    I added a new interface recently, and would like to limit the total amount of bandwidth it is allowed to pass to any service, both up and down to 768kbps for example.
    I seem to have been able to successfully throttle the bandwidth on that interface flowing in from the WAN, but haven't quite figured out how to limit the upstream flowing out of it.

    Again, you can only throttle traffic leaving an interface.  In order to limit the traffic flowing into a WAN interface, you have to limit the traffic from it leaving the Astaro on another interface.  That's about all anyone can explain until you say what traffic you're trying to limit.

    Another key thing to understand with Astaro QoS is that it's focused on favoring desired traffic instead of limiting other traffic.  There are cases where an abusive user must be throttled, but, normally, the best way to go is to guarantee bandwidth to the services you  prefer to have priority.
