QOS - the correct settings???

Hey all,

I am confused on how to correctly set QOS. Cannot get my head around it! I must be getting old...  

So, if I have a download speed of 20 Meg and an Upload speed of 2 Meg.

Internal is ETH0 / External is ETH1.

How do I correctly set these values? I want the AGS to dynamically handle to QOS for me to see how well it works.

    You can only control upload speeds on an interface with QOS ... you can reserve bandwidth for certain protocols, services, and can also specify a "cap" on their upload speed.  A trick you can use to regulate Downloads would be to apply some QOS to the internal interface, in the reverse direction (upload speed on the internal interface is equivalent to the download speed for the clients attached to that interface).  This does work as well.

    You can enable the download / upload equalizers, which do help balance demand between clients... but to set fixed bandwidth caps or reservations, you'll have to go deeper into the QoS configuration.

    It certainly could be more intuitive to configure; I believe there is some work being done by Astaro to make it more easily configured by new admins... it did take a while for me to get the hang of it myself.

    Bruce, in your opionion the reverse use of QoS could generate issues or it works well in all situations? Tell me if it is correct:

    - Create new traffic selector with Source: Any - Destination: internal
    - Create new bandwidth pool in internal with the traffic selector 

    is it right?
