Mail erjected "missing RDNS" but RDNS is ok

I have a problem with mail from a certain domain being rejected with reason  extra="RDNS missing".
Manually looking for aa.bb.cc.dd.in-addr.arpa, I went through the following sequence of result (which is not 100% the same way as a resolver should go, e.g. I don't start with root servers from scratch for later queries):
# host -a aa.bb.cc.dd.in-addr.arpa
times out
# host -a dd.in-addr.arpa
gives NS entries, e.g. x.arin.net
# host -a aa.bb.cc.dd.in-addr.arpa x.arin.net
gives (among others)
cc.dd.in-addr.arpa NS foo.subfoo.AAAAA.com
# host -a foo.subfoo.AAAA.com
SERVFAIL
# host -a AAAA.com
AAAA.com  NS  bar.subbar.BBBB.com
# host -a bar.subbar.BBBB.com
SERVFAIL
# host -a BBBB.com 
BBBB.com  NS  ns.BBBB.com
ns.BBBB.com A xx,yy,zz,uu
(interestingly, there are several NS records, but glue only for a few, not always the same)
# host -a bar.subbar.BBBB.com ns.BBBB.com
subbar.BBBB.com NS foo.subfoo.AAAA.com

So it looks like a loop: In order to find foo.subfoo.AAAA.com, I need to find bar.subbar.BBBB.com and vice versa.
This works only if  glue records are provided.

However, if I use Squishywishywoo: complete dns traversal checking , no problem is displayed.
In fact checking the log they produce indicate that already the gtld-servers *do* provide glue record, e.g. for bar.subbar.BBBB.com 

Is there a reason why Astaro cannot find the RDNS entry as good as squish.net can?
