PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Netflix with HTTP Proxy

[FONT="Tahoma"]I'm aware of related PS3 post, but have a few questions for folks who may have solved this problem.

  • What ports and protocols to what IPs and Hostnames are required for PS3 login?
  • What ports and protocols to what IPs and Hostnames are required for Netflix login?
  • What ports and protocols to what IPs and Hostnames are required for Netflix streaming?
  • What is the recommended way to configure the HTTP proxy?
  • Does anyone know why previous rules worked in ASG 8.0 and not in 8.1?


I currently have:

  • PS3 Servers: 198.107.131.0/24
  • Netflix Servers: 64.215.158.0/24
  • Netflix Service: TCP 80 → 1025:65535
  • PS3 Auth: UDP 80:65535 → 3478:3479
  • PS3 Auth: TCP/UDP 80:65535 → 5223
  • PS3  UDP 80:65535 → 3658
  • PS3 Auth: TCP 80 → 1025:65535
  • Netflix HTTP Exception: URL Filter/Content Removal netflix.com, llnwd.net, edgesuite.net, nflximg.com


I would love some help, because I can no longer log onto the PS3 network, or stream netflix movies with HTTP proxy on.  Thanks!

    same issue here, reinstalled and upgraded to 8.003, it works.  next upgrade to 8.1 and it fails.

    I see, great!  So, I need to downgrade to pre-8.1, and life should be good again.  Wonder if they have this as a bug report yet?

    I tried the recent upgrade to 8.101, and the problem is still there, so I'm downgrading to 8.003.

    Make these changes:
    1.) HTTP/S -> Websecurity - Exceptions
         a.) Add a new exception list with the following domains (I skip ALL checks):
              - netflix.com
              - llnwd.net
              - edgesuite.net

    2.) Under HTTP/S -> Advanced, make sure "Bypass content scanning for streaming content" is checked (it should be by default)

    3.) I also have my PS3 NAT'd and I added the "Media Streaming" services group to the allowed traffic service group in the NAT rule.

    Just as an FYI, I am running version 8.003.  (I did not downgrade, I just haven't upgraded yet.  Yes, shame on me!)

    I don't know if this is something new, but PSN apparently requires Jabber to log in now. If you have your port forwarding and DNAT set up correctly, but still can't log into PSN, go to Web Security -> IM/P2P -> IM in your Astaro Gateway and make sure you're not blocking "Google Talk/Jabber" for your PS3 console.

    I was having the same problem, what causes the problem is Web Filtering (if you disable web filtering you should be good). I left Web Filtering enabled but made a static mapping under DHCP and made a Network Definition for it. Then under web filtering -> advanced tab -> Under Transparent Mode Skiplist I added the definition I created for the PS3. Basically everything on my network except the PS3 is subject to the Web Filtering. With this set I was able to stream movies with Netflix.

    Does anyone know how to get this working on version 8.2?  IM/P2P Isn't available and can't find anywhere to unblock Jabber

    It's still there in 8.2, but they moved and renamed it. All the IM/P2P stuff can now be found under Web Security > Application Control, then under the Application Control Rules tab.

    The user interface is significantly different from what previous versions had, and I haven't really had time to figure it out yet. I have not made any changes to this section, so what I have there now is whatever was migrated there from my previous versions when I upgraded to 8.x. My PS3 network connections are still working with the current settings.

    Instead of GoogleTalk/Jabber, it now shows up as two separate applications, GoogleTalk and XMPP. I have a bunch of entries to block all the IM/P2P applications I don't want, and one that allows GoogleTalk and XMPP. Let me see if I can manage to post a screen shot...
