Hello,
Would someone mind casting their eye over how I have set my QoS rules to see if it is ok please?
I have a broadband connection of 891 kbit/s upstream (slow I know, but am in the UK) and 10000 (roughly) kbit/s downstream. My external WAN port is 100Mbps. My internal network runs through gigabit switches and cabling, with mostly gigabit NICS.
I have set my QoS as follows:
Internal Total available uplink bandwidth: 1024000 kbits/sec
Total available downlink bandwidth: 1024000 kbits/sec
External (WAN) Total available uplink bandwidth: 800 kbits/sec
Total available downlink bandwidth: 10240 kbits/sec
I have defined one traffic selector:
VOIP [Define VOIP traffic]
Any → VoIP Protocols → Any
And one bandwidth pool:
VOIP [Reserve 256kbit/s for VOIP]
Guaranteed Bandwidth: 256 kbits/s
Traffic Selectors: VOIP
I use Sipgate VOIP and it advises about 100kbit/s each way, so I put 256 just to be sure.
I don't want this bandwidth reserved at all times though, only when the SIP protocol is actually active (i.e. only when I am on a call). Is this how it will work?
Many thanks for your time in looking at this. I am new to Astaro, but not to networking.
