DNS Redirect to multiple internal servers using any protocol

I have two servers in my LAN that I'd like to access using unique DNS names so references to those stay intact. The servers are: 
Server1 - server1.foo.bar

Server2 - server2.foo.bar

What I did before when I used my DD-WRT router was to set custom DNSMasq entries: 
address=/server1/server1.foo.bar/192.168.x.x

address=/server2/server2.foo.bar/192.168.x.x

When I migrated my network to Astaro's solution I was unable to get the same result as I did with my DD-WRT router and it's DNSMasq. When I used the Static DNS entries it only worked for HTTP(non-encrypted web) traffic. (Yes, I was using the HTTP/S relay with HTTPS enabled) When I used Full-NAT rules described here(with some modifications) I could only access the first server in the list as Astaro would look at the packet's header, see that the IP is it's external address(all DNS entries point to the external address) and forward all traffic for that address to the server. That's the desired result except that it only works with the first server as it is satisfied with the routing after the first entry. (Full-NAT would work perfectly if instead of looking at the packets destination IP Address, it would look at the packets destination DNS Address. You'd also need a new Network Definition type to define a DNS Address instead of a DNS Address that translates to an IP Address.)
For now I'm stuck using my DD-WRT router as DHCP and DNS because I can't find a way to make Astaro's local DNS server work the same way as the open source firmware on my router. Is there any way to get DNS Redirects working the way I want(even if it means editing config files on the Astaro server)? I'm using a bring your own box ASG 8.003.

    This sounds like just a glitch in your configuration.  Post #3 in https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/53/t/32566 is a good place to start.

    In Astaro V8, you can create forward- and reverse-lookup 'Static Entries' that should give you what you want.

    I don't want to run a dedicated internal DNS server to make this work. Also the DNS Static Entries did work, but only for HTTP traffic. HTTPS, SSH, FTP, etc would not work as the documentation says it uses the DNS Static Entries in conjunction with the HTTP/S Proxy to prevent a request with an external address from looping back into the ASG. When I disable the HTTP/S Proxy, the Static Entries no longer route. Also I'd prefer not using the HTTP/S proxy as a lot of sites have issues with it and there is a bit of lag to it. The issues I reference is that downloads don't work. For example, I can't download any addon for teamspeak 3 with the proxy enabled. I assume it's due to the way their download script works.

    I suppose I'll enable SSH access and try a manual configuration of the DNS server in the ASG.

    Well don't suppose if anyone knows what DNS server is running on ASG.

    EDIT: Also this would be a nice feature to add to the next version of ASG. A text field in the DNS Server settings where you can specify custom DNS Server configuration settings similar to the custom DNS settings text box in DDWRT. I'm sure others out there would like to have some custom configuration settings for the built in DNS Server.

    Ghostdogg, I'm sorry I was so short in my last comment.  In fact, the things you want to do are possible with the Astaro DNS in the version you're running.  Here's the post I suggested, but changed for your situation:

    [LIST=1]
    • Configure the Astaro DHCP server for internal devices to point at the IP of the Astaro for DNS, then an OpenDNS server.
    • The Astaro DNS Proxy lists "Internal (Network)" as allowed client.
    • The Astaro DNS Proxy lists the OpenDNS name servers as forwarders, and 'Use forwarders assigned by ISP' is not checked.
    [/LIST]
    On the 'Statis Entries' tab, create a new mapping, for example:

    Hostname: server1.yourdomain.com
    IP Address: 192.168.1.101


    If desired, check the box to create a reverse entry.  One the new mapping is saved, internal users will resolve server1.yourdomain.com to 192.168.1.101, and external users will get the IP in public DNS.

    Is that what you were trying to accomplish?

    I didn't think that I had to manually specify the ASG as the DNS server since I thought that it proxied DNS requests. But so far it's working perfectly. Though I am getting something a bit odd when I look at my client's network settings. Even though I disabled the DHCP server on the DD-WRT router(192.168.0.2) and enabled the DHCP server on the ASG(192.168.0.1), clients show the DHCP server as 192.168.0.2.
