DNS Problem

I have my astaro set up along side a windows small business server 2003 standard.

The sbs server is not joined to the ASG, but I have set the DHCP server to hand out the primary dns server as the SBS and the secondary server as the ASG.  I also have the domain listed under the dhcp server "mydomain.local"

Some of the devices on my network will resolve fine, but some are resolving with the IP address of the cable modem[:S]

If I manually set dns on my laptop to just use the sbs, then everything will resolve fine, but if I set it to just the ASG then it will resolve them as the modem ip.

Any ideas on what may be wrong here??

What is the correct way to setup the asg when there is another dns server on the network??

    Don't set any clients to point at the Astaro at all.

    If you feel you must do this, make sure you add a DNS Request route for your internal domain name that points at your SBS server on the Astaro.  I recommend adding the request route anyway, regardless of whether you set clients to point at the Astaro for DNS.

    Following Balfsons steps, I have now setup my dns as follows:

    1. Internal devices point at internal name server for DNS, then the Astaro, then the OpenDNS servers. 

     (Changed this on the DHCP server to hand out the IP address of the SBS as the only and primary DNS server.  I also filled in the Domain as MyDomain.local)

    2. The internal DNS server's first forwarder is to the Astaro DNS Proxy, then to the OpenDNS servers.  

    (Forwarders on SBS listed as 192.168.2.1 (ASG), 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS), 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS))
    3. The Astaro DNS Proxy lists "Internal (Network)" as allowed client. 

    The Astaro DNS Proxy lists the OpenDNS name servers as forwarders, and 'Use forwarders assigned by ISP' is not checked. 

    (Using 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS))
    4. In 'Request Routing', the internal DNS is used for reverse DNS of internal IPs 

    (2.168.192.in-addr.arpa  > SBS IP )

    Have I got this correct??  Everything seems to be working ok now, but just want to check I haven't missed anything.

    Hi, it'd be more secure to only use Astaro as the resolver for the internal server.

    Everything else looks fine.
