Problem with torrents

[:S] If there is a torrent being downloaded nobody can browse the internet ?
If i use pfsense there is not any of those problems why is that .

    Hi,
    have a look in your IPS log and review the cpu load. 

    Are you using the http proxy, if so the torrent download could be running you external link at maximum causing the DNS to fail.

    Please post more details about what is happening
    1/. what message do you see on the PC that is trying to websurf
    2/. you link speed
    3/. any IPS/IDS reports or log entries.

    I will have to install Astaro again i could not fix the problem so i went to my other security software.
    what i found was yes there was a dns error in windows event viewer it gave a dns error with a dns server address .
    The cpu was not running high from what i remember but if there is a dns error .what could the problem be and i am not using http proxy .

    The cpu is running at 100% and the dns fails says that.. in the event viewer in windows 7 
    Is there a way to fix it ?

    Hi, what speed is the CPU and how much RAM are in the firewall, and what version of Astaro are you running?

    The two machines i have tested Astaro v8 lastest build .
    1. amd 2600+ 1gig ram 2 10/100 network cards 
    2. P4 2.26ghz 1gig ram 2 10/100 network cards

    Hi, I'm not sure why the CPU usage would be so high, but it's probably from the IPS.

    As Ian said, posting your IPS log would be helpful as you may need to tune it.


    As for bandwidth, you have a few choices:

    1. throttle the bittorrent clients in the client software (easy)

    2. setup QOS on Astaro for BitTorrent with a min and max bandwidth specified.
