To open a port, go to 'Network Security >> Packet Filter' and add a PF "Allow" rule. 'Source' could be 'Internal (Network)' and 'Destination' could be 'Internet' or you could be more-restrictive and create Network Definitions for your PC's private IP and the public IP of the server you're trying to reach.
To see if there are other ports you need to open, watch the Packet Filter Live Log when attempting to connect.
Yes, you can use OpenDNS if you configure the DNS Proxy under Network Services. For tips on the best way to set this up, google: site:astaro.org DNS best practices.
What Bob said; I'll add that you may need to define that custom port (called a service in Astaro--and other firewall--parlance) in that packet filter definition; this, coupled with a proper NAT MASQ Rule, should get you working. What application are you using, and what ports does it need open?
