block ip addresses

Hello,

I have spent the last several days trying to understand subnetmasks in an effort to block ip address ranges.  Unfortunately, I am finding it very difficult to understand the subnetmask concept, and fear that the learning curve is unrealistic for my rather straightforward objective.

What I need to do is quite simple:  I would like to block all traffic except to a handful of external ip addresses.

Is there an uncomplicated way to do this in Astaro without having an understanding of subnetmasks?

But you didn't say what you were trying to block.  Emails?  In-bound traffic to a webserver?  Web surfing from inside your network?

Just knowing the subnet definition won't necessarily get you where you want to go.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Thanks for the link, Bob--its the most useful thing I've seen in all my efforts in trying to understand subnetmasks!

I would like to block any and all types of traffic, email, inbound and outbound traffic--basically everything.

Only traffic (regardless of type) to a select few IPs would be allowed.
