RDP questions

Ok. I am trying to do something & am wondering if it is at all possible. I have a domain that I want to use to RDP back into each of my 3 computers on my home network through my Astaro Firewall. The thing is I am having trouble setting it to differentiate between the 3 computers. I can set up so that it will forward to one computer, but I need to be able to access any of the 3 PCs. Could I use a single domain & use a DNAT to forward it from the incoming port 3389 (MS RDP) to a separate port that I use to choose each different computer?

    You can do it the way you describe, but that means opening more ports and giving the entire world access to your network.  Normally, we recommend DNATs only be used when needed and then only into a DMZ.  An example would be to a webserver meant to be available on a public IP.

    Wouldn't it be easier to use a VPN?  If you have a Windows PC, the SSL VPN setup from the User Portal is completely painless.  Setting up the User Portal is likewise painless.  We prefer L2TP over IPSec since it uses the standard Windows VPN client, but the client setup does require a little more fiddling to configure.

    I guess you have a point that a VPN would work better. I have been having issues using the VPN from work though. That was part of why I was trying to setup the RDP back into my system.

    Which VPN?  Sometimes you can get out more easily with SSL because 443 isn't blocked, but the ports for IPSec are.

    I suppose I could setup the SSL & try it that way. I was using IPsec & didn't think about work blocking those ports. I will have to set that up for a test on Mon. Thanks for the idea.

    Actually, you'd want to setup 3 different external ports on the firewall to be DNAT'd to 3389 on each PC.
    e.g., you could use 13389, 23389, and 33389 externally to go to 3389 on PC1, PC1, PC3 respectively.

    But a VPN is a better idea.
