P2P problems [7.400]

It's probably my ISP's fault (TW), but...

recently I have upgraded to 7.400 (from the betas), and since about the same time, I am having lots of trouble with eMule and Vuze (BitTorrent client).

IPS is running.

In the IM/P2P settings, I have:
LANs defined in the Settings-Controlled Networks.
No skip lists in Settings-Advanced.
IM and P2P Control Status both show Disabled (which is what I want).

IPS log is showing several ICMP and UDP floods per hour (from remote hosts), but the size of the logs are not significantly larger than when running the betas.

PF log is about the same size as usual.

I'm doing the usual DNAT and PF rules for the P2P programs, not using SOCKS or generic proxy.

The problems include tracker errors, _extremely_ slow uploads and downloads, etc.

Anyone else having problems?

wc -l /proc/net/ip_conntrack
shows 1286 connections, but I have a generous connection limit in my license.

I shutdown the p2p apps for over 1/2 hour, and the conntrack entries dropped down to 100 or so.
I've now restarted Vuze, and it's working _somewhat_ better now than it was this morning.

How can I check if the 'too many connections' logic in Astaro is triggering?

I use SOCKS for Instant Messaging sometimes, but P2P has always worked fine without SOCKS.

Can't use SOCKS for VOIP.

It's not a DNS issue is it? Check DNS settings.

Try disabling IM as well as P2P filter.

Try disabling web proxy and just stick an Any Any rule in for a bit in traffic filter.

I don't think P2P uses DNS much, and the phone calls connect OK (so not DNS prob), and voice calls sound OK, but there is apparently enough jitter or packet loss as to cause faxes to fail. The faxes don't even start, it seems like they're trying to handshake for awhile and then fail.

I don't use the web proxy or IM/P2P security features, and I did try turning off the IPS.
My filter rules allow ANY outgoing.

I've opened a case with Astaro support, they're asking for a tcpdump during a fax, which I will try to do tonight.

Also, I forgot to check for interface errors before; there is only 1 error currently (9 days uptime), and that is probably from when I disconnected the firewall to try the VOIP directly.

I use OpenDNS as my resolver in the firewall, btw.

Hrm, sounds tricky.

I'll leave you in the tender arms of support.

I always find OpenDNS a little flaky. I know a ton of people swear by them.

This is probably a red herring, but in tcpdumps I notice that ARP requests are sent by Astaro every 30-60 seconds for EACH internal IP.
My understanding is that 20 minutes is the common ARP cache time.

Even worse, when my printer is off, ARP requests are sent to it every second in 12-second groups.
It's possible my PCs are trying to poll the printer though.

I now notice my fax machine is no longer working properly over my VOIP line.
I plugged the VOIP adapter directly into the cable modem, and fax works fine.

VOIP seems to be working better for me with 7.402.

I'm not using any of the Astaro SIP features, fwiw.
