How to implement traffic shaping

Hi,

on our asg 425 with an 16.000 kbit ADSL I noticed,  that internet is very slow when upload has high utilization.

Is there a way to prioritize data packets so that an upload will not slow down the downloads?

  • With ADSL, isn't that determined by the ISP?

Have you checked the MTU and other hardware issues?

Maybe the problem is that the request packets from the users aren't getting out.  If you can isolate the source of the high-utilization uploads, you could create a QoS rule on the External interface that limits that source to 75% of the available upload bandwidth.

Interesting problem.  Please let us know the solution.

    Cheers - Bob
  • Another way might be just to turn on QoS for the Internal interface and not define any rules.  If I understand correctly, that should allocate bandwidth via Stochastic Fairness Queuing and resolve your issue.

Again, I'm interested to know what works for you.

    Cheers - Bob
