Testing the effectiveness of the IPS

What are some ways that I can test the integrity and security of the Intrusion Protection System on our ASG appliance?

Is there a toolset that I can use to invoke certain test-attacks?

The Anti-Portscan works, but that's not that interesting! [;)]

thanks guys.

any options you recommend enabling/disabling on Nessus or nmap? (for example, will enabling a DoS attack load my CPU and crash my ASG appliance?)

Load the CPU, yes.
Crash, it shouldn't; if it does, report it here.
