Shaping Bittorrent? Does it actually work?

Hi all,

I kicked off a download using uTorrent all works fine. I now want to shape and/or block uTorrent traffic.

QoS doesn't seem to work.
P2P Classifier doesn't seem to work.

1. Network -> QoS: created a bandwidth pool with guaranteed and maximum bandwidth pool of 1Kbps. My bittorrent traffic still continued to run happily in the 20-50Kbps range

2. IM/P2P -> Peer to Peer: changed to Bittorrent to Block All. My bittorrent traffic still continued to run happily in the 20-50Kbps range.

3. Explicitly block: 6969 and 6881 to 6889.  My bittorrent traffic still continued to run happily in the 20-50Kbps range.

So can the ASG actually block or shape Bittorrent?

TIA,

j.

  • Hmmm.  Do you have caching activated on the ASG?  Have you tried clearing the cache?

If that's not it, is it possible that you have another connection to the internet?

    Cheers - Bob
