VMWare ESX & ASG V7 no nic after reboot

Hello,

I have installed the ASG V7 on VMWare ESX 3.x. Everything was running fine but this morning after a reboot of the ASG, there are no Network Cards initialized.
When I type in "ifconfig" only the loopback Adapter is displayed. I have checked "lspci" and the systems has 3 AMD PCNet Adapter detected. In "/etc/modules.conf" there are 2 aliases "eth0 & eth1" with vmxnet driver.

But the network cards won´t come up. Is there a way to the start interfaces manually? It´s urgent, need it back online? [:S]

    Open up your VMware Infrastructure Client and make sure that you still have network cards assigned to the ASG VM. 

    What version of ESX are you using?

    Do you have a backup of your config file for ASG? And if so have you tried to make a new ASG VM using your backup?

    Have you rebooted the ASG VM again to make sure it wasn't some kind of crazy fluke?

    It´s ESX 2.5 on an IBM Server.


    Do you have a backup of your config file for ASG? And if so have you tried to make a new ASG VM using your backup?

    No I don´t have a backup of my asg installation. I wonder that it crashes again. At the first time it happend I thought it was "some kind of crazy", checked some things and then reinstalled it. 
    It was running fine for aprox a week and then I´ve had to shutdown the server. After rebooting, the network cards were gone. 

    When I check the hardware at console with "lspci" I can see the NIC. "lsmod" shows the "vmxnet module" is loaded but there is no NIC beside the loopback adapter.

    Have you rebooted the ASG VM again to make sure it wasn't some kind of crazy fluke?

    Please help. I´ve read other threads with the same probs but not fixed. I´ve tried to use the special "ASG Virtual Appliance", but it needs 30GB of free Diskspace.... Too much for my purpose... [:(]

    Well ASG 7.X runs great on ESX 2.5, there should not be any issues there. 

    When you checked your network cards via your VMware Infrastructure Client did you happen to notice they had the "connect on boot" checked or not? If they are not checked then AVG will not see them during the boot process.

    Are you using this for a business? If not I would start over from the beginning (scratch). It is unlikely you would have a ton of configuration done to the ASG virtual at this point. This time around however save your configuration file to a location you can get at in the event you need it. Deploying a new ASG VM only takes minutes assuming you're doing this through the VMware Infrastructure Client.

    Once you have deployed a new VM run any updates and reboot it a few times to make sure you're nic's are still there.

    Let us know how it goes...

    Sure I did. And I don´t think that is an issue with the installation of the esx. When I´m installing a fresh ASG V7 everything is running fine till the first reboot of the VM. 

    Are you using this for a business? 

    I would like to use it for business. But at the moment it´s not very practicable. And it will not be, when I always have to restore the machine from backup, after rebooting it! [:(]

    Is there a smaller defined vmdk for the virtual appliance? Or a way to get one?

    for the vmdk I simply logged in to the http://www.astaro.com website and clicked on MyAstaro>>Software Downloads>>ASG Virtual Appliance.

    Unpacked that to my ESX VIC and deployed. 

    Other than the items outlined in the above posts I cannot think of anything that would cause the type of issue you're getting.
