Creating VLAN on switch loses connection

I have an ASG220 /w 7.1 The primary LAN interface is 10.9.1.1
I have an office group some distance away from the servers and ASG that I connected using fiber with 2 netgear layer 3 switches. Everything worked fine. Now I want to use a second fiber port on each switch to segregate security camera traffic. I created a VLAN on each switch, say ports 1-16 plus fiber port 25 in VLAN1 and ports 17-24 plus fibr port 26 in VLAN2. The uplinked switch only has 2 ports in VLAN2 (1 fiber plus 1 port for the storage server)
As soon as I create the VLAN all traffic to the other end of the fiber stops. When I try to open the switch gui I get a message from astaro:

Error message: No route to host 

Any suggestions?

    mrainey, could you post a diagram to see how it is actually wired? may help others to understand the issue better

    Attached is a jpg with a rough network diagram. As I look at it, it would seem that maybe the problem is I need some routing rules in the Netgear fiber switch at the far end?

    I assume the 10.9.1.x network is on VLAN 1.

    Is VLAN 1 being configured as a tagged VLAN on port 25 and VLAN 2 as a tagged VLAN on port 26 on both switches? And is the Astaro managing the VLANs?

    On the 28 port switch VLAN1 is tagged and includes ports 1 - 16 and 21 - 25. Port 25 is the fiber port uplinking to a 12 port switch where VLAN1 is tagged and includes ports 1 - 9 and 12.

    VLAN2 on the 28 port switch is tagged and includes ports 17 - 20 plus 26, the intended fiber uplink port. Ports 27 and 28 are reserved for stack ports.
    VLAN2 on the 12 port switch is tagged and includes ports 10 - 11.

    The tagged ports for each VLAN are "excluded" from the other VLAN.

    Confirm that the VLAN settings are identical on both switches especially on port 25 and 26? This will need to be confirmed.
