Stuck behind DSL NAT

I'm using the ASD behind a DSL router that already does NAT.  Halfbridge doesn't appear to be an option with this device, although it is new so I'm digging around for that information as well.

Is there a way to get the Astaro to work without NAT?  If I delete the masquerade rules, it just seems to break everything.

    Astaro can run in transparent mode, but you'd probably be better off setting the router into Bridged mode if possible.

    It is double NAT, and thanks for the pointers.

    I'm affraid I don't see how transparent mode works with VPN however.  I've found info on how it affects http and ftp proxy stuff, but I don't see anything for VPN.  If you could point me to the relevent doc, I would sure appreciate it.

    With double NAT you could configure your first router to port forward everything to the Astaro.

    If your first router supports PPPOE pass through then you could just disable the PPPOE dialing from the first router and just let Astaro take care of the PPPOE connection. Some routers that don't have the bridge mode option may allow for PPPOE passthrough...erm if PPPOE is what you are using for your DSL connection that is.

    If you are manually setting up PPPOE on the Astaro, just remember to check the MTU value is set correctly.

    You might be able to get your ISP to provide you with a DSL modem / router that does support bridged mode... also, Mike, if you are in the U.S. or Canada, check out http://www.dslreports.com/faqnew  ... for instance, as a BellSouth / AT&T DSL customer (at home), I have a Westell modem... well there's a FAQ on that page that describes how to switch to bridged mode... there may be help for you there.  You could also try googling the model number of your existing DSL Modem / Router and downloading the Docs for it...

    Thanks again for the help.  I tried putting it into bridge mode last night.  It failed miserably, The user guide for the router (Actiontec GT724R) doesn't even mention the bridge mode although it is selectable on the router.

    I'm betting it's possible with this modem, but I just don't have the right docs.  I'll take a look at the sources you point to and see how it goes.
