Blocking media types

Hello,

Can you block streaming media using IPS?  There are some local websites (including news sites) that I would like users to be able to access but to have streaming media blocked.  These sites use a Flash Media Player that does not use a recognised file extension for streaming movie.

    Thanks for the reply.  By blocking swf extensions, I will be disabling some of the functionality offered by Flash enabled sites.  It is the streaming of the video file by the Flash object that I want to throttle or block.  I struggled with a similar issue on a SonicWALL box before enabling the relevant IPS rules on that unit.  I am hoping that I can achieve a similar or better result here.

    considering you cannot enable or create custom rules on ASL 7(it is supposed to be coming soon) there's not a bunch you can do except setup your own snort box and have it do that for you.
