Can't get MSN Messenger to log in

New V7 installation on the home program.  I can't seem to get MSN Messenger to log in, except on one computer.

The other 2 fail to log in.  In the IM rules, I have MSN set to "Do Not Block".

I created an SOCKS proxy and configured MSN to use the proxy.  The MSN test works, but again, it will not log in.

Even without the SOCKS proxy, it fails.  

In Network security, packet rules, I have the Messenging Rule turned on (the one that is configured by the wizard).  

I searched, and all I can find here is that most want to block it totally.  

Any ideas?

    I would watch the packet filter live log whilst attempting to log on with MSN Messenger; see what ports / destination IPs are being blocked.  If you don't see anything there, repeat the process whilst watching the IPS log .. see if you're triggering a rule somewhere that needs to be disabled.  Have you tried just defining a MASQ rule and packet filters (not using the SOCKS proxy)?

    Viewing the packet filter rules, nothing is being hit.  I turned on the log for the messaging rules, and do notice that when I attempt to log in, I do get outbound on 1863.

    Under IPS, nothing shows up as being hit, so that seems OK (correct me if I'm wrong).

    in MASQ, I do have 1 rule, Internal (Network) --> External (Wan) and it is enabled.

    I would have thought that SOCKS would have worked, but it didn't either.  If I go back to my old Linksys router, MSN will log in.

    What else can I monitor that may give me a clue.  Again, this works on one XP box, fails on another XP box and fails on a Vista box.

    Do you have transparent http proxy on?

    If so, you will need to create exceptions for MSN as MSN being the junk that it is cannot work through transparent mode.

    Transparent mode didn't do it either.  

    Quick question, what would be the rule I would need to put in place to open up all in and out traffic to this one box for testing.

    I know I have to define the host first.  What would be next.  I'm pretty sure I have a good idea, I just  want to make sure.

    Define the host.
    Create new packet filter rule:
    Host Definition ANY PROTOCOL -> ANY DESTINATION 

    And enable the rule.

    Do you have a MASQUERADE definition for your internal network?
    If not, MASQ Internal network to EXTERNAL interface.

    Looks like I will have to do some tcpdump monintoring.  That isn't it either.

    I'm having the same issue with other apps.

    Rules have been made and are active.

    The HTTP Proxy is something I will look in to when I get home. That sounds promising...

    The issue with resolving the problem so far for me at least is there is nothing showing up in the logs for blocked or dumped traffic... If there was, the issue could be resolved quickly...
