Load Balancing with 2 DSL lines

Hello,

in one of the latest issues of the German computer magazine CT they tested routers which handles two DSL connections for load balacing [1]. A UK based provider is offering a similar solution  [2].

Is Astaro able to handle this kind of service as well ? Search for Load Balancing I only found solutions based on services or DMZ.

    Astaro can do policy based routing, which means that you are able to send specific traffic to a second internet uplink like:
    - dsl line 1: everything (using default gateway)
    - dsl line 2: http and https and pop3

    Astaro does currently not support multilink ppp or dynamic multipath routing.

    I think that's what he's saying. [:)] If you want to use more than one internet connection you have to use policy based routing.

    I have heard of people using Xincom Dual/Multi WAN products in front of Astaro before with good success, but have not tried it myself.

    Yes we use a XINCOM DUAL WAN DPG503 router and I see NETGEAR does a similar one ...

    following through on the same note, I've tried having ASG do a "primary" and "secondary" uplink configuration with no problems (2nd connection only kicks in when 1st one loses sight of "google.com" for example).  Very good afaik.

    But now I'm trying to experiment with having both connections "active" at the same time.  my "primary" for all my browsing and email needs, then the "secondary" would simply route all traffic (on that connection) to a server behind ASG.  What happens instead is that the "second" connection is visible, but I can't get passed it into the internal server.  

    And even when I create NAT and packet filter rules to allow both "public connections - primary, secondary" to route incoming traffic to the internal server, incoming traffic only reaches the internal server when accessed via the "primary" connection.

    Hope my essay's clear nuff to get some inputs.

    Please have a look at my signature. There is a link to an explanation of policy Routing. With Policy Routing you should be able to use both lines for different types of services.
