QoS and Skype

Is it possible to perform QoS for Skype thus limiting the bandwidth used by Skype?

    If it uses a fixed set of ports, you should be able to.

    I know it will use port 80, 443, etc if it can't get out any other way, but if you allow it's normal ports, I think it will stick to them.

    Hi Barry,

    I read that same info on Skype's website. However even if we don't block or allocate certain ports in the high end range, I think there is still the risk of Skype attempting to use port 80 and 443.

    By default Skype will Enable "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections" in the Skype > Tool > Options > Connections section.

    You can disable this setting on the client. Ideally, you would want to push this setting out to all of your clients by a login script on the domain server.
