ASG 120 v7 DNS and NAT settings

Hi 

Any ideas for this one please?

The dashboard shows incoming packets from the internet interface but no outgoing traffic.
The packet filter live log shows packets being blocked from internet address.
I can't ping external addresses.
I can''t resolve external hostnames.


configuration:
1)two dns ip addresses entered in DNS forwarders and dns enabled for my internal network.
2)any->any->any packet filter rule enabled only and at the top of the list.
3)any->external interface Masquerading rule set.

Am I missing anything to get it up and running?

    Sorry about the delay in replying.

    I did edit those settings but also seem to have a problem connecting via the dsl line.

    Could anybody explain why there is a box for entering modem ip in the pppoa interface settings but not in the pppoe settings????

    My modem doesn't have an ip as it is in bridge mode but an error is produced in the astaro pppoa logs when connecting via pppoa.

    DSL (PPPoE): PPP over Ethernet. A DSL PPPoE device lets you attach your
    firewall to "PPP-over-Ethernet" compatible DSL lines. These devices require a
    dedicated Ethernet connection (they cannot co-exist with other interfaces on
    the same hardware). You must attach a "DSL modem" to the interfaces network
    segment. The network parameters for this device types can be assigned by the
    remote station (typically, your ISP). In addition, you need to enter username
    and password for your ISP account.
    DSL (PPPoA): PPP over ATM. A DSL PPPoA device lets you attach your firewall
    to "PPP-over-ATM" compatible DSL lines. These devices use the PPTP protocol
    to tunnel IP packets. They require a dedicated Ethernet connection (they cannot
    co-exist with other interfaces on the same hardware). You must attach a
    "DSL modem" to the interfaces network segment. The network parameters for
    this device types can be assigned by the remote station (typically, your ISP).
    In addition, you need to enter username and password for your ISP account.
    You’ll also need to enter the IP address of your modem. This address is usually
    hardwired in the modem and cannot be changed. To communicate ith the modem,
    you have to enter a NIC IP address and netmask. The modems IP address
    must be inside the network defined by these parameters. The "Address to ping"
    must be a host on the other side of the PPTP link that responds to ICMP ping
    requests. You can try to use the DNS server of your ISP. If this address cannot
    be pinged, the connection is assumend to be dead, and will be reinitiated.

    Yes I've read that, it didn't answer my question. Which was why, in the astaro interface settings, PPPoA connection requires a modem with an IP address and PPPoE does not.

    This is the way (ISP) does the handshake with your modem!

    How did you connect before then?

    Before I used the PPPoA settings, the username and password were set in the modem itself. 

    Both coonection types are supported by the ISP it seems but PPPoe connects via an ADSL modem in bridge mode and pppoA doesn't.

    I was just interested whay this would be the case.
