Wireless Access pt works on different subnet

I plugged an old SMC wireless access point (SMC2655W) into my hub.  According to the manual, the SMC defaults to 192.168.2.50 (I reset it to factory defaults).  The subnet in my house is 192.168.116.xx.  With my laptop I was able to connect to the SMC and browse the internet.  I'm not an expert with routing and firewalls, but since the SMC was on a different subnet then everything else in my house, it shouldn't be able to access anything, should it?  I wanted to connect to the admin interface on the SMC and configure it, so I manually changed the IP on my computer to 192.168.2.60 so it was on the same subnet as the SMC.  Unfortunately, this didn't work, I was not able to access the SMC's webadmin.  I can't figure out why.  I normally have proxy setup on my browser via port 8080, but I turned it off for this.  I tried both firefox and IE to get to SMC's webadmin.   I have astaro 7.002.

    I also use an old SMC Wi-Fi router as an access point. It is connected to the DMZ network originating from my ASL box.

    To prep the SMC router for use only as a Wi-Fi access point and Ethernet switch, I first turned off the internal DHCP server, then I changed the internal IP address to an address on my DMZ subnet. Since my ASL setup prevents me from browsing directly to devices on my DMZ net, I added a secondary IP address on my ASL Internal interface, and created a HTTP DNAT rule mapping port 80 on this additional Internal IP address to the access point on the DMZ. That way I could browse the webadmin pages inside the access point from my Internal network. The SMC access point is connected just via its 4-port internal LAN switch. The WAN side of the SMC router is not being used.

    I think what happened is the SMC had DHCP on and picked up an IP on it's own.  The web interface doesn't seem to work on my SMC, even if I just plug my laptop directly into it.  I had to use SMC's software to configure the access point.  As you did, I turned DHCP off and put in a static IP from my DMZ network.  I wasn't sure if I should but a default gateway in and if so, what it should be.  It seems to work fine.  The only reason I'm doing all this is I couldn't get my Tivo to work on my Internal network, astaro was blocking something.  I don't know enough about reading logs to see what was being blocked.  Any idea where I can learn more about reading the logs?

    Since the SMC web browser doesn't seem to work anyway, no sense creating a rule for it in astaro like you did.
