Routing between 2 DSL lines

Hi All,

i am using Astaro (software) version 6.303. 
My general configuration includes using 1 DSL line, and SMTP proxy.

Now, since my current upload is rather slow, i decided to divide my internet traffic to two DSL lines (i don't want to increase my DSL speed).

on 1 DSL lines i want to shift all SMTP traffic, and the 2nd DSL line will carry all the rest.


since i am using SMTP traffic, i wonder how i can 'tell' the FW to shift all its smtp traffic to dsl 1 and the rest to dsl 2.

( i thought about implementing policy route, but i am not sure this is the right solution, also, i don't know how to implement it)

    proxy traffic goes with the gateway, so a policy to point the other traffic at the alternate line should work.
    Configuration, I haven't done it so I can't help any further.

    Sir,

    as i understand, since i have 2 dsl lines, i have 2 gateways. can i use policy route to tell the amtp proxy to use GW1 and the rest of the traffic to use GW2?

    will the Astaro accept two GWs?

    Sorry, you can only have one gateway.
    The policy route will direct the traffic to the second link.

    Mrkashtan, V6.x supports only one pppoe interface so you need an additional router for the 2nd Dsl link.

    astaro supports only one pppoe interface (only for backup-link two supported). I have had the same problem and solved it with a separate router (small dlink dsl-router). my defaultgateway is set to the pppoe interface, which i used for my smtp, vpn, ras and ssh traffic. with policy-routes i route the http, ftp, pop3 and streaming traffic through the dlink-router. it works great!
    And FYI: I used proxy for http and smtp. Other users talk about it is not possible, all proxied traffic goes over the default-gw line.

    You have to do the following:
    1. set the default gateway to the pppoe interface
    2. generate a "Definition/Networks/Host entry" (the ip of your dsl-router)
    3. generate a "Network/Routing/Policy route" like this:
        SOURCE=any, DESTINATION=any, SOURCEINTERFACE=any, SERVICE=http, TARGET=your definition under pos2
    4. generate a "Network/NAT-MASQ rule" like this:
        TYPE=dnat/snat, SRC-ADDR=any, DST-ADDR=any, SERVICE=http, CHANGE-SRC-TO=your 2. external interface (not the pppoe)
    5. Test it with e.g. www.whatismyip.com

    That's great, but how about another scenario....i have 2 dsl lines, both have the same GW, would that make it easier to proxy traffic between them?

    The speeds are limited by the FW in each of the modems....however they are on the same gateway.....i hope i explained that well enough....

    Would that change anything?

    on one asl solution i have had the same (2 lines with the same gw). you can only resolve them imho by using a separate router, like the scenario above!

    I have a similar setup, though slightly different.

    I have one DSL line which all web and other assorted traffic uses, and the second DSL line (separate phone line, and second modem) for e-mail traffice only.

    I setup the second DSL with ASL and no DHCP, set the first DSL with ASL and DHCP for all the office machines.

    I then setup the first ASL to forward all POP and SMTP traffic to second ASL which uses its own connection to the internet , though both ASL's have an IP on the same internal network.

    Umm... it sounds like you're using 3x as much bandwidth for incoming mail that way, as mail has to come in through one line, go out again, and then come in through the other.
