7.001 Bad IPS Performance

Hi

I managed to kill my Firewall yesterday by accident...

The bad thing is it was just by using a bittorrent client.
I forgot that I had blocked bittorent in the P2P section. Therefore when I tried to download something from 1 client I obviously did not got anything but when I looked at the firewall (Duron 1.2) WebAdmin was very unresponsive, when I did manage to get in Dashboard was saying I was using 99% CPU and 80% of 768 MB RAM....

Is anyone else getting crap performance from their IPS or do I need to delve further into this?

I have seen same behaviour. I haven't blocked any p2p traffic but almost instantly after starting azureus on my macbook and beginning a download firewall cpu usage gets really high and hard disk led shows a lot of disk activity. At this point admin interface is really slow if responding at all. Azureus is also showing very low traffic, a few kilobytes per sec. After quiting Azureus things get back to normal after a while. Quick test shows this slowdown does not happen with IDS disabled.

The firewall was running version 7.000. I haven't got time to run more specific tests or dig any log files yet. I had to switch back to V6 for now.

Hey Mike

yes, i posted the same bug for v6.933 - "stress testing - running P2P software with no "allow" packet filter - caused box to completely lock up!"

Don't try to use the "Alert" in any of the "IM/P2P security" settings. I did and the ASG became unusable, I had to shut it down from the console if memory serves me correctly, every packet logs an entry in the logs and when 2 users are using MSN messenger during a game there are a lot of packets flying pack and forward.

The other thing is in any other mode you don't get any stats for IM.P2P traffic.

I think i may have to just to get my throughput back again. I'm sorry but i need a firewall that can handle 1 bittorrent client without performance going threw the floor

ids performance of V7.001 realy sucks for now. hope astaro will fix this in the new up2date.

where we can see the ids pattern details about the groups.
